Participating in this training program has deeply influenced both my teaching philosophy and methodology. In many ways, learning the philosophy and practices of Montessori education affirmed what I had always believed to be true about children and learning, but had not been able to fully implement in my previous experience in public education. When I began this program, I was already working as a teaching assistant in a Montessori classroom and had observed children working with the materials and moving through the daily routine. Through this training, however, I gained a much deeper understanding of the intentionality behind every material, lesson, and aspect of the prepared environment, as well as the scope and sequence of the Montessori curriculum. I now have a greater appreciation for how carefully designed the Montessori method is in supporting the whole child academically, socially, and emotionally. This experience has also strengthened my appreciation for the fact that my own daughter will have the opportunity to receive this level of education.
My ideas about reflectivity, facilitation, teaching and learning, and leadership have evolved throughout this program. I now see reflection as an ongoing and essential part of teaching rather than something done only occasionally. In a Montessori environment, especially in a multi-age classroom spanning ages 3 to 6, children are constantly growing and changing, and teachers must continually adapt to meet their developmental needs. I have come to understand facilitation as carefully guiding and observing rather than directing every aspect of learning. Teaching and learning now feel much more collaborative and child-centered to me, with the teacher serving as a guide who prepares the environment and supports independence. My understanding of leadership has also shifted. I now view leadership less as authority and more as modeling, supporting, and creating an environment where both children and adults can thrive.
Overall, I would not change anything significant about the program. I have greatly enjoyed the experience and feel grateful for the knowledge and support it has provided throughout my training. One aspect I especially appreciate is the digital library, and I look forward to even more resources becoming accessible in the future, particularly through YouTube or other online formats that allow for quick review and reference. Having continued access to these materials will be valuable as I continue growing in my Montessori practice.
