MTGM: Introduction to Geometry

This course covers visual discrimination of two and three-dimensional forms, the beginning study of lines, angles, polygons, and circles as well as perimeter, area, and volume using Montessori geometry materials.
Summary
The unit also includes lectures on the philosophy and scope and sequence of the Montessori mathematics curriculum. Students will see video presentations of an educator working with a student on various Montessori math materials. The student/educator video is designed to give the viewer a sense of how the lesson is presented in an actual Learning Environment with age-appropriate students. An accompanying video analyzes the lesson in a discussion format, giving important information on how to present the lesson, how the lesson fits in with the math scope and sequence, what materials are needed, as well as direct and indirect aims of the lesson content.
