EL Teacher – Joseph S. Bruno Montessori Academy

Location: 5509 Timber Hill Rd, Birmingham, AL 35242

The teacher of the elementary classroom will assume all of the responsibilities implied by the position of teacher including but not limited to the following:

1. Perform all of the duties necessary in the classroom, including but not limited to the following:

 Preparation of classroom as required by Montessori standards, presentation of appropriate lessons to all students, maintain a clean and orderly classroom, maintain orderly storage areas, maintain order and discipline in the environment while developing a sense of community, provide a challenging curriculum for all students, respect the differences in all students, provide appropriate record keeping and assessment for students work. Close the classroom at the end of the academic year as necessary, depending on the use of the classroom during the summer.

 

2. Provide a cultural study program that follows the Montessori curriculum and also makes use of the materials and environment the school has to offer especially in the area of science. This program should include several appropriate field trips.

 

3. Plan special holiday events and provide appropriate activities to celebrate the holiday.

 

4. Provide a variety of classroom materials in all disciplines that meet the needs of various learning styles.

 

5. Provide a minimum of two parent-teacher conferences. Communicate with parents on a regular basis when deemed necessary for the optimal progress of the student.

 

6. Provide written documentation for special conferences with parents for record keeping in the classroom.

 

7. Supervise playground and lunch activities.

 

8. Rotate with other teachers in the early morning care and extended day care as needed. Be ready to lend your services in other ways when teachers are absent.

 

9. Report to the Head of School the evaluation report for any student who is below grade level in the subjects of Language Arts and Mathematics.

 

10. Read the handbook of rules, regulations, and procedures for classroom teachers and uphold all of the rules, regulations, and procedures as stated.

 

11. Attend staff meetings and planning sessions with the entire staff, or with co-teachers.

 

12. Work as a team on committees for special events, for example the renewal of our AMS & Cognia (formerly AdvancED) accreditations.

 

13. Follow all Department of Health and Fire Marshall Guidelines, and report to the Head of School any material or repairs necessary in order to keep classroom environments up to standard.

 

14. Attend all school functions required for teachers.

 

15. Read and follow all rules and procedures in the JBMA Emergency Response Plan.

 

16. Participate in professional development.

 

17. Perform other job duties assigned by the Administrator, and work cooperatively with the staff, faculty and administration of the Academy.
