A Few Reminders
Due to the wide variety of technologies you could have at home, it’s critical when contacting us to provide as much information as possible. This will help us, help you, faster.
Common questions we’ll want answers to:
- What kind of device are you using?
- What web browser are you using?
- When was the last time you restarted your computer?
- Are you trying to connect through wireless or Ethernet?

Post to the Introduction Forum
Also, remember to respond to others in the forum discussions to create your community together online. Keeping up with the forums is an important part creating community online.
Have Newish Headphones / Headset
Be sure to have your equipment ready prior to the first chat. A newer headset or headphones will keep the echo and distortion to a minimum for a distraction free online class.
Internet Problems?
- Get closer to the router in your house if you are on wireless. Be sure no one in your house is playing video games or streaming high-definition videos. Please tell them to take a break until the chat is over.
- Connect via ethernet if wireless is spotty.
- Connect your headphone jack BEFORE you open the chat window.
- Restart your browser first then restart your computer with your headphones connected to your audio jack.
- Check any security programs you may have on your computer, especially if you have selected an option such as blocking or filtering traffic from the Internet. You can disable for the chat and then re-enable afterwards.
- Update Adobe Flash Player (download from adobe.com), and be sure you are on the latest version of your Internet browser.
- Change to another browser to see if the connection is better (from Safari to Chrome, for example).
Software Requirements
Most courses make use of the Zoom chat room activity for live, interactive online conversations between students and their instructor.
Headset with a Microphone attached.
Headsets are important because when chatting with a large group online you want to prevent noise feedback by wearing headphones. Then if you can have a microphone near your mouth it’ll improve the sound quality so that everyone is able to hear you clearly.

Tips on Internet Speed & Connection Reliability
- Make sure that you have the best Internet that you can afford. The speed of your Internet can make a big difference.
- 25mbps is the recommended minimum speed if you are the only person using the Internet while streaming video from home.
- All of our online chats are pre-scheduled so be sure to let everyone at home know as well. If everyone is watching Netflix on separate devices, it can make your connection unreliable while you’re trying to learn and chat with your cohort online.
- Invest in a decent headset / microphone / webcam / laptop to empower your learning. See recommendations below.
Downloads
All of the forms and documents that are available for either viewing or download use Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF).To view these documents you will need the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
You may download the software for free.
If you are taking courses on Montessori Live you will also need to be able to submit many of your assignments in .doc format. This is the native format of MS Word. We ask that you format your documents to .doc format and NOT .docx.
Open Office may be used as an alternative to MS Word and may be downloaded for free.
